Spring 2007

Dear Friends,

What about high school? Many Christian families who send their children to Lutheran or other Christian schools for their preschool through eighth-grade education ask that question. It is a question that has come up at Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Saint Francis for many years. Now, after years of asking that question and laying the groundwork for an answer, we are pleased to announce that Trinity Lutheran High School opened in September 2006. We are now accepting enrollments in all four grades of high school (9-12) for the 2007-2008 school year.

Vital Years for Laying a Foundation for Life

Trinity Lutheran High School (TLHS) is committed to offering a better choice for the high school education of Christian youth in our community. The high school years are a time in which our young people are setting the course for the rest of their lives. The foundation is laid in high school for their further education in college or for a life of service in the trades. The development of Christian character reaches a critical stage in these adolescent years. Every day, high school youth make decisions that will affect the rest of their lives: to focus on school and healthy extra-curricular activities or to waste time and develop patterns of laziness; to obey the laws of our community or to start carousing and using alcohol or illegal drugs; to be obedient to God’s plan for life or to become sexually involved prior to the sacred life-long commitment of marriage. Our sons and daughters need an educational environment that will help them to develop a disciplined lifestyle, to make wise decisions, and to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Is Public School the Best Choice?

Public schools are generally failing in their effort to provide this necessary environment for high-school youth. Some Christian students succeed in public high school and continue to grow in their relationship with Christ and the church, but these exemplary youths do so against the grain. The educational environment of our public schools is too large, is generally undisciplined, and many students feel lost in the crowd. Many if not most high school graduates today enter college under-prepared academically to succeed in a broad range of subjects, with the result that colleges spend a great deal of their efforts helping students to catch up on skills that should have already been mastered prior to college. Most importantly, no public school can provide an environment where students grow in their relationship with Jesus and His church.

A Better Choice

Trinity Lutheran High School is a better choice for the education of your son or daughter. It is not a cheaper choice financially, but in the long term even in financial terms it is a better choice. Especially in its developing years TLHS will not offer as many choices for electives or extra-curricular activities as our large public schools, but it offers a better choice for the academic development of our young people: we are committed to a disciplined learning environment and high academic standards, where every student who makes the effort will be well-prepared upon graduation to succeed in college or for a life of service and success in the trades. Most important, TLHS offers a better choice for the environment in which your son and daughter will make those lifestyle decisions that will have such a great impact on their future. We cannot promise that every student in our school will always make the best decisions, but we can and do promise that the environment in which they learn will help to guide them toward decisions that reflect a living relationship with Jesus, our loving Lord who forgives us for our failures and empowers us to live a new life in Him.

Policy for Admissions

Trinity Lutheran High School admits students of any color, nationality, or ethnic origin. The school is established as an educational mission of Trinity Lutheran Church for the community at large, in particular for families seeking a Christian education in a disciplined learning environment for their son of daughter. We are looking for students who want to be here and to take advantage of a wonderful opportunity to learn. While we do believe in forgiveness and second chances, we are not a dumping ground for students with a history of disciplinary problems or with attitudes that will compromise our commitment to a disciplined, Christian learning environment.

Tuition and Fees/Financial Aid

Enclosed in this folder are registration materials for the 2007-2008 school year. Tuition and fees are established at $4900.00 for the academic year; need-based tuition assistance is available for families who apply, and families with more than one student enrolled will receive a discount for the second ($3900) or third ($2900) child. Of these total fees, the following applies: A non-refundable reservation fee of $400 is due by August 1st; this fee is reduced to $200 for students who enroll and pay the reservation fee by May 1, 2007. A Tuition Payment Schedule Agreement will be completed and signed by the parents and school administration after financial aid is awarded to students who apply and who qualify. Contact our office for an application for financial aid. Please complete the Enrollment Form and return it to our office as soon as possible so that we can properly plan courses and staffing for the coming school year. There are no fees required upon returning the Enrollment Form, but enrollment is not complete until the reservation fee is paid.

What about high school? It is a vital question as you consider the education of your children. We are committed to making Trinity Lutheran High School the better choice for your son or daughter’s high school education.

In Christ’s service,
